PlayStation · Console · 2000–2006
Sony launched the PS one in North America in July 2000, a shrunken PlayStation that measures 38 × 193 × 144 mm against the original's 45 × 260 × 185. It plays the whole PlayStation library, and through the end of 2000 it outsold every other console, the brand-new PlayStation 2 included. Sony got it that small by moving the power supply out to a 7.5 V adapter and dropping the parallel and serial ports. The power button doubles as reset with a quick double press. In 2002 Sony sold it in a Combo with a 5-inch LCD screen (SCPH-131) that has its own speakers and passes power and AV through. By March 2006, 28.15 million PS one units had sold.

Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
It can't run without its external 7.5 V adapter, so a listing without one isn't ready to play. The disc drive is now more than 20 years old, so a read test matters as much as on the original.
New to retro hardware? How to check a used retro console covers testing, yellowed plastic and opened shells, and regions and video out explains what will run on what, and on which TV.
Buying guide
We'd buy the PS one titled tested with an OEM controller, memory card and cables at $78 delivered, and its photo shows the adapter and AV cable too. That's under the $83 median of the $65 to $110 band most complete consoles ask, and there are at least 179 for sale. Console-only units ask about $48 to $80 delivered, but the PS one can't run without its external 7.5 V adapter, so look for it in the photos on any kit and budget for one on a bare console. Ask for a video of a game booting on the first try. The LCD screen Combo at $387 delivered sits at the top of what screen bundles ask, and the boxed one at $153 is mostly paying for the box.
$57.41est. delivered
Titled tested and working at $57 delivered, the lowest ask on a PS one that isn't sold untested. It's the console alone, so you'll need Sony's 7.5 V adapter, an AV cable and a controller before it plays.
Sony PSOne Console PlayStation 1 Slim SCPH-101 - Console Only Tested & Works

🚨TESTED🚨 Sony PSOne Console SCPH-101 PS1 Playstation 1 Slim Bundle
$38.44est. delivered
Titled untested at $38 delivered, with a digital pad and the manual but no adapter in the photo. Add an adapter and it's a cheap gamble, well under what a tested console asks.
