Super Metroid reached North America on April 18, 1994, built by Nintendo R&D1 and Intelligent Systems under director Yoshio Sakamoto. At 24 megabits it was the biggest Super NES cart yet, and the room went into a large, connected map that opens up one item at a time. It sold well enough that a year later Nintendo moved it into the Player's Choice line, so check which box a listing has. By late 2003 it had shipped 1.42 million copies worldwide. Nintendo has put it out again many times since, on the Virtual Console, the Super NES Classic Edition and Nintendo Switch Online, but the cart is still how you play it on a real SNES.

Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
The save battery is the part racing the clock. It's a soldered coin cell from 1994 or 1995, and when it goes the game won't hold a save.
New to retro hardware? How to check a used retro console covers testing, yellowed plastic and opened shells, and regions and video out explains what will run on what, and on which TV.
Buying guide
We'd buy the loose cart titled tested at $89 delivered if you just want to play, or the copy with its box and manual at $200 delivered if you want it complete, the lowest complete ask here. There are at least 58 listed, and the $110 to $380 band mixes loose and complete copies; loose carts here ask $86 to $120 delivered, and complete copies start at $200 with most under $440. It saves to a soldered coin cell from 1994, so ask the seller to save, power off and reload before it ships, and ask for a photo of the back to see Nintendo's security screws. Skip the $5,100 listing, whose photo shows a Super NES Control Set console box rather than the game alone.
