NINTENDO 64 EXPANSION PAK NUS-007 TESTED AUTHENTIC OEM N64 MEMORY PACK
Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak (NUS-007)
The NUS-007 adds 4 MB of Rambus memory, doubling the N64's total to 8 MB. Nintendo built it first for the 64DD disk drive, then sold it on its own in 1998, and it came in the box with Donkey Kong 64 in 1999. DK64 and Majora's Mask won't run without it, and Perfect Dark needs it for the single-player campaign, with the box saying only about 35% of the game works without it. Plenty of other games use it for sharper high-res modes. It goes in place of the Jumper Pak, the blank module most consoles shipped with to close off the memory bus, and Nintendo packed an ejector tool to pull that out. Mad Catz sold a less expensive version, the High-Rez Pack.

Before you plug it in
The version, the region and what it needs
- Which one is it
- Nintendo's Expansion Pak is a black plastic module with a red top, model NUS-007. The Jumper Pak it replaces (NUS-008) adds no memory, so don't confuse the two. Mad Catz sold its own version, the High-Rez Pack, and an open-source copy of Nintendo's board exists, so check the photos for Nintendo's pak if that's what you're paying for.
- RegionNTSC-U (North America)
- The pak isn't region-locked. Region lockout lives in the console and in the cartridge's CIC chip, so it works in any N64.
- Fakes and mods
- Third-party paks exist, including Mad Catz's High-Rez Pack, and there's an open-source recreation of Nintendo's board for making new ones. Look for the black-and-red Nintendo pak in the photos, and expect an unbranded one to be a copy.
Should come with it
- The NUS-012 ejector tool and the box, if it's a boxed set
- Some listings are pulled from a Donkey Kong 64 bundle and come without a box
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
What to check
Nintendo's paks are simple RAM modules, so the main risk is getting a third-party copy instead. A few games, such as Space Station Silicon Valley, can crash with one fitted, so swap the Jumper Pak back in if one acts up.
- 01Nintendo pak: Check the photos for a black pak with a red top. That's Nintendo's NUS-007.
- 02Third-party: Read the title for High-Rez Pack or another brand. Those are copies, and the listing should say so.
- 03Contacts: Zoom in on the edge contacts in the photos. They should be clean with no green corrosion or scratches.
- 04Bundle pull: Check whether it came from a Donkey Kong 64 bundle. That's still Nintendo's pak, just without its own box.
- 05Fitting: On arrival, switch the console off before swapping it for the Jumper Pak. It should press in flush and the console should boot.
- 06Test game: On arrival, start Donkey Kong 64 or Majora's Mask if you have one. Both need the pak, so getting into the game shows it works.

Buying guide
Which one to buy
§ Oct 15, 2026We'd buy the NUS-007 titled tested and authentic at $60 delivered, the going rate for Nintendo's pak from a well-rated seller. There are at least 152 for sale and most ask $60 to $75 delivered, so if you bid on the $28 auction, stop under $60. Nintendo's pak is black with a red top and NUS-007 on the label, and Mad Catz's High-Rez Pack and newer open-source copies exist, so check the photos for the Nintendo label and ask to see the edge contacts, which should be clean. It isn't region-locked, so the boxed Japanese one works in a US console. Skip the $110 listing, which shows a stock box photo instead of the pak.
