Pitfall! Atari 2600 Activision 1982 Authentic Cartridge Tested Working
David Crane was one of the Atari programmers who left in 1979 to start Activision, and Pitfall! is the game that made his name. Released for the 2600 in 1982, it sends you through 255 jungle screens to collect 32 treasures in 20 minutes. Crane said the design took about 10 minutes and the programming about 1,000 hours, much of it spent squeezing the code into a 4K cart. It held the top spot on Billboard's video game chart for 64 straight weeks and passed four million copies. Activision even sent a Pitfall Harry's Explorer Club patch to players who scored 20,000 points. With that many made, loose carts are easy to find. The blue label is the one AtariAge rates scarce.

Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
The cart is a single 4K ROM with no battery, so condition comes down to the label and the contacts. On a boxed copy, check the box and manual as closely as the cart.
New to retro hardware? How to check a used retro console covers testing, yellowed plastic and opened shells, and regions and video out explains what will run on what, and on which TV.
Buying guide
We'd buy the Activision cart titled tested and working at $16 with free shipping, under the $24 median of the $20 to $35 band, or pay $33 delivered for one titled cleaned and tested with its manual. That band is loose carts, and complete-in-box copies ask $82 and $162 delivered. Make sure it's Pitfall! and not Pitfall II, and that the label is Activision's, since AtariAge lists foreign and unlicensed versions from Polyvox, CCE and Dynacom plus an Australian PAL release that rolls on a US setup. Labels on loose carts peel and stain, so look closely at the photos, and ask about any label that looks freshly printed. Skip the tested cart with no seller shown, whose title another account also uses.
